13.02.2025 Prague Welcomes the Year of the Snake: Chinese New Year Celebration.
On February 13, 2025, the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague 6 became a focal point of cultural exchange as it hosted an exuberant celebration to welcome the Year of the Snake. Organized by the Chinese Embassy and led by the Chinese Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Feng Biao, in the esteemed presence of Czech President Milos Zeman, this grand event showcased the vibrant traditions of Chinese New Year, fostering a spirit of friendship and international cooperation.
The celebration, set against the modern yet historic backdrop of CTU, was an intricate blend of tradition and innovation, much like the university itself. As guests arrived, they were greeted by a magnificent display of lanterns and red banners, transforming the university premises into a scene reminiscent of a Chinese festive village, bursting with color and vitality.
The official opening ceremony began with speeches from Ambassador Feng Biao and President Milos Zeman. His Excellency Mr. Feng Biao expressed gratitude to the hosts and emphasized the significance of the event as a bridge linking the cultures of China and the Czech Republic.
Following the formal speeches, a majestic dragon dance captivated the audience. The performance, a traditional New Year spectacle, was executed by skilled dancers whose energetic movements symbolized good fortune and power. A lion dance followed, thrilling spectators with its vibrant costumes and acrobatic stunts, creating an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation for the new year.
Throughout the day, an array of cultural performances dazzled attendees. Classical Chinese music, featuring traditional instruments like the pipa and dizi, resonated through the halls of CTU, offering a soothing and melodic counterpoint to the lively festivities. Calligraphy demonstrations and tea art presentations provided hands-on cultural experiences for the guests, immersing them in the elegant and intricate world of Chinese arts.
Cuisine was a highlight of the celebration, as guests were treated to a sumptuous selection of traditional Chinese dishes. Culinary delights from various provinces, including dumplings, sweet rice cakes, and spicy Sichuan specialties, provided a delicious exploration of China’s rich culinary heritage.
A special segment of the event was dedicated to educational and scientific exchange, underscoring the collaboration between CTU and various Chinese research institutions. Exhibits outlined innovative joint projects, illustrating the synergy and shared goals of Chinese and Czech scientists.
As the day concluded with a spectacular fireworks display over the Prague skyline, the luminescent bursts symbolized the joy and optimism brought by the Year of the Snake. The celebration at CTU not only marked the arrival of the Lunar New Year but also reinforced the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Czech Republic and China.
With guests departing with hearts filled with joy and spirits lifted by cultural camaraderie, the event succeeded in bringing the world closer, one New Year celebration at a time.
