Czech government faces no-confidence vote in Parliament

On Tuesday, the Czech coalition government faced a parliamentary no-confidence vote due to accusations of incompetence from the main opposition centrist ANO (YES) movement led by Andrej Babis, a populist billionaire. The movement claimed that the government was not doing enough to help people deal with the high energy prices that were causing a spike in inflation and that the government was not communicating with the opposition about their plans.

The government denied these accusations and questioned the timing of the vote, which takes place before the second round of the presidential election. The vote is expected to take place late Tuesday or on Wednesday. Babis, the former prime minister, is running for president in the upcoming runoff election on January 27-28.

Despite the accusations, the coalition is unlikely to be ousted by the opposition parties as it has a comfortable majority in the lower house of parliament.
