The US Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, have announced their nominees for this year, and four Czechs have been nominated for their work on the film All Quiet on the Western Front. These nominees include make-up artist Linda Eisenhamerova, special effect artists Viktor Muller and Kamil Jafar, and sound mixer Viktor Prasil.

The film, directed by Edward Berger and produced by Pavel Muller of Sirena Film, was shot in the Czech Republic thanks to film incentives. According to Muller, the majority of the crew for the film were Czechs, including all of the stunt men and those responsible for special effects.

All Quiet on the Western Front has received nine nominations, making it one of the leaders in the Oscar nominations. While producer Pavel Muller refused to predict which nominee might win the Oscar, he did express his belief that Avatar is likely to win in the visual effects category. Regardless of the outcome, the nominations for Czech film artists are a great success for the Czech film industry as a whole.

Viktor Prasil, the chief sound mixer of the film, described the nomination as a great recognition and attributed the success to the hard work of the crew and the ability of the director to captivate them. Viktor Muller, one of the special effect artists, noted that they aimed to make the film as realistic as possible, using real elements instead of digital effects, and while he believed the film did not have much chance of winning an Oscar, he was still filled with joy that the Academy had noticed their work.

The Oscars will take place on 12 March in Los Angeles, where the nominees will find out if they will be taking home the coveted statue.
