Weekend Heatwave and Thunderstorm Threat Loom Over Czech Republic
The Czech Republic is bracing for a significant shift in weather patterns as the upcoming weekend promises to usher in temperatures soaring beyond the tropical benchmark of 30°C, according to forecasts from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ). While warmer conditions are on the horizon, the return of thunderstorms also looms, presenting a contrasting weather scenario to the chillier and rain-laden days that have characterized the current week.
In a notable departure from the current weather, characterized by daytime temperatures below 20°C and chilly rain, the CHMI’s latest report revealed mountain valleys experiencing temperatures nearing zero degrees Celsius. In one instance, Horská Kvilda in Šumava recorded a mere 1.4°C at around 4 a.m. The ČHMÚ’s projections reiterate the likelihood of temperatures exceeding the 30°C threshold over the weekend, coupled with a resurgence of thunderstorm activity.
Leading up to the weekend, particularly on Thursday and Friday, the weather is anticipated to experience a mild warming trend accompanied by reduced rainfall. Meteorologists predict daytime highs ranging between 19°C and 23°C for Thursday, punctuated by sporadic showers. Friday, in contrast, is set to offer clearer skies and is expected to remain precipitation-free, with temperatures ranging between 22°C and 26°C.
Saturday is poised to usher in a further increase in temperatures, with daytime highs projected between 26°C and 30°C. Skies are likely to be predominantly cloudy, transitioning to mostly clear as the day progresses. However, a potential challenge arises in the form of isolated showers or thunderstorms, particularly during the evening hours, with a focus on southwestern and western Bohemia where cloud coverage is expected to intensify.
Sunday is anticipated to see the mercury climb to a range of 27°C to 31°C, while the possibility of localized showers or thunderstorms persists. Accompanying this weather change, an uptick in wind activity is also anticipated. As the first half of the subsequent week approaches, the temperature gauge might rise to as high as 32°C. Nonetheless, the presence of thunderstorms is forecasted to persist through this period, underscoring the dynamic and potentially volatile weather conditions on the horizon for the Czech Republic.
