Baroque Library of Klementinum in Prague Now Open to Visitors

Baroque Library of Klementinum in Prague, considered by experts as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world, is now open for tourists. From the beginning of this year’s tourist season, visitors can enjoy a new guided tour that includes the library, the Mirror Chapel, and the Astronomical Tower. The National Library of the Czech Republic and the Prague City Tourism organization worked together to create this exclusive tour route.

Although the library is separated from the Royal Route – the most important tourist route in Prague – by a high wall, it is easily accessible to tourists. The tour route is the ninth guided tour in the city offered by the Prague City Tourism organization. František Cipro, Chairman of the Board of Prague City Tourism, emphasized that their task is to offer and show tourists the most interesting places in the city and promote tourism.

However, the tour route is not for everyone, as visitors must be prepared to climb about 170 stairs, some of which are stone, iron, and wooden, and some are very steep and spiral. But the view and the tour are well worth the effort. Visitors will be amazed by the beauty of the library, the intricate decorations, and the stunning view of Prague from the Astronomical Tower.

The Mirror Chapel, where the tour begins, has already enchanted Emperor Charles VI, the father of Maria Theresa. The library’s historical and musical collections, including rare manuscripts, maps, and books dating back centuries, offer visitors a glimpse into the country’s rich history.

The new tour route offers exclusivity because visitors can see areas that are not normally accessible. The two organizations hope up to 50,000 people will visit Klementinum in the first year. The tour offers a unique experience, showcasing the library’s most valuable collections and the city’s rich cultural heritage.
