Belarusian Opposition Leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya to Embark on Diplomatic Mission to Prague

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, prominent figurehead of the Belarusian opposition, is set to embark on a pivotal diplomatic mission to Prague, underscoring the enduring struggle for democracy in Belarus. Scheduled to arrive on 23 March, Tsikhanouskaya’s four-day visit will encompass a series of high-profile engagements aimed at galvanizing support for the Belarusian cause and fostering international solidarity.

According to her spokeswoman, Anna Krasulinova, Tsikhanouskaya’s itinerary includes attendance at a conference of the Belarusian community, the inauguration of the Belarusian Democratic Forces office, and a special screening of a documentary featuring her courageous journey, as part of the One World human rights film festival.

During her stay, Tsikhanouskaya will also engage in substantive discussions with Czech political leaders, further bolstering diplomatic ties and garnering support for the Belarusian opposition movement.

The visit commences with Tsikhanouskaya’s participation in a conference of the Belarusian diaspora in the Czech Republic on Saturday, 23 March. The following day, she will pay homage to the esteemed legacy of humanist and doctor Frantisek Skorina, unveiling a memorial plaque in his honor on Prague’s historic Old Town Square—a poignant tribute to a revered figure in Belarusian history.

A significant highlight of the visit is the inauguration of the Belarusian Democratic Forces office in Prague on 25 March, symbolizing the steadfast commitment to democratic ideals and the relentless pursuit of freedom for the Belarusian people. Tsikhanouskaya will also grace the screening of the documentary ‘By Chance the President’ at the One World festival, offering a compelling portrayal of her unwavering resolve amidst adversity.

Concluding her visit with strategic diplomacy, Tsikhanouskaya is slated to meet with Czech political leaders on Tuesday, 26 March, fostering dialogue and cooperation in the pursuit of common goals.

Tsikhanouskaya’s visit to Prague underscores the ongoing struggle for democracy in Belarus, as she continues to advocate for the rights of her fellow citizens and rally international support against the oppressive regime of Alexander Lukashenko. In the face of adversity, Tsikhanouskaya remains a beacon of hope, epitomizing the resilience and determination of the Belarusian people in their quest for freedom and justice.
