Celebrating Japan’s National Day: Strengthening Czech-Japanese Relations
On the occasion of Japan’s National Day, the Embassy of Japan in Prague hosted a grand reception to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor. The event, attended by distinguished guests including the President of the Czech Senate, Mr. Miloš Vystrčil, marked a significant moment in the ongoing strengthening of Czech-Japanese diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties.
Deepening Diplomatic Bonds
In his keynote address, H.E. Mr. Kansuke Nagaoka, Ambassador of Japan to the Czech Republic, emphasized the remarkable growth in bilateral relations over the past three decades. He expressed his gratitude for the enduring partnership between the two nations, particularly in political, economic, and security cooperation.
Highlighting the upcoming Osaka-Kansai Expo, Ambassador Nagaoka welcomed the presence of Czech businesses and leaders at the event, underscoring the mutual commitment to deepening collaboration. He also acknowledged the recent visit of Senate President Vystrčil to Japan as a crucial step in fortifying political and economic ties.
Economic and Business Partnerships
A core component of Japan-Czech relations is the robust economic exchange between the two countries. Japan remains the second-largest source of foreign investment in the Czech Republic, with almost 270 Japanese companies actively contributing to the Czech economy. These firms play a pivotal role in export markets, job creation, and technological innovation.
During the reception, some Japanese companies established booths, introducing their products and activities. Their presence underscored Japan’s commitment to fostering bilateral trade and economic growth.
Shared Commitment to Global Security
The celebration also served as a platform to reflect on pressing global security issues. Ambassador Nagaoka reaffirmed Japan’s unwavering support for Ukraine in light of Russia’s ongoing aggression, emphasizing the interconnectedness of European and East Asian security. The Czech Republic and Japan have strengthened their defense cooperation, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on defense industry collaboration last year.
Showcasing Japanese Culture
Beyond diplomacy and economics, the event was a testament to Japan’s rich cultural heritage. Attendees were treated to an authentic Japanese experience, featuring traditional cuisine and sake. Guests had the opportunity to explore an array of premium sake varieties, experiencing the depth of Japanese craftsmanship.
In addition, the reception introduced the mascots of the Osaka-Kansai Expo—Myaku-Myaku from Japan and Rene from Czechia. The bond between these two characters symbolizes the deep-rooted friendship between the nations and the excitement surrounding the upcoming Expo.
Looking to the Future
As Japan and the Czech Republic continue to foster closer ties, events like this National Day reception reaffirm the shared values and aspirations of both countries. With expanding economic cooperation, enhanced security partnerships, and a deep appreciation for each other’s cultures, the future of Czech-Japanese relations looks promising.
As the celebration concluded, guests departed with a renewed sense of partnership and anticipation for the opportunities that lie ahead in this enduring alliance.
