“COVID is a common disease; let’s abolish compulsory isolation,” suggests the ministry

The Ministry of Health has recently proposed a draft decree that seeks to classify COVID-19 as a common disease, and eliminate the automatic seven-day compulsory isolation for infected individuals. Instead, doctors would make isolation recommendations based on the results of a health risk assessment of the patient. This proposed change reflects the global evolution of the COVID-19 epidemiological situation and decreasing susceptibility to the disease due to vaccination or other measures.

According to the explanatory memorandum, doctors would realistically assess the level of risk of further spread of the disease, taking into account the health status of the individual and their surroundings. They would also consider the nature of their employment in making their decision. For example, an infected person working in the health or social services sector would be subject to a different approach due to the potential for dangerous spread of infection, as compared to a person working outdoors without close interaction with others.

The Ministry also highlights the importance of assessing the possibility of using respiratory protective equipment in conjunction with the health risk assessment. The use of respiratory protective equipment plays an unmissable role in preventing the spread of COVID-19, even when the disease is classified as a common disease.

The proposed decree aligns with the approach of neighboring countries, which are also relaxing their restrictions. However, it is important to note that relaxing restrictions does not mean that the risk of COVID-19 transmission has disappeared. It is still crucial to continue taking necessary precautions such as wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and following proper hygiene protocols.

In conclusion, the proposed decree by the Ministry of Health regarding the classification of COVID-19 as a common disease and elimination of the automatic seven-day compulsory isolation for infected individuals is a positive step towards a more realistic and practical approach to addressing the COVID-19 situation. It recognizes the evolving nature of the disease and takes into account various factors that may influence the spread of the virus. It is important for doctors to exercise caution and assess the risks of further spread of COVID-19 in each individual case. The use of respiratory protective equipment remains crucial in preventing the spread of COVID-19, even when the disease is classified as a common disease.
