Czech Delivery Companies Gear Up for Holiday Parcel Surge, Recruiting Thousands of Temporary Workers
As the holiday season rapidly approaches, the Czech Post and other delivery companies are gearing up for an anticipated record-breaking surge in parcel deliveries. The Czech Post, in preparation for pre-Christmas operations, is set to recruit approximately 700 temporary workers from across the country and has enlisted the support of staffing agencies to facilitate this recruitment drive.
Anticipating peak delivery periods following various e-shop discount events like Black Friday in early December, subsequent to November salary payouts, and just before Christmas, the Czech Post spokesperson, Matyáš Vitík, foresees a parcel volume similar to that of the previous year.
Zásilkovna, another prominent delivery company, is also gearing up for an expected threefold increase in parcel volume during the pre-Christmas period. Supported by a network of 47 modernized depots and over 1000 seasonal temporary workers, the company’s founder, Simona Kijonková, is optimistic about surpassing their previous record of sorting 817,000 parcels in a single day, established last year.
Courier company PPL has likewise expanded its capacities for the holiday season, gearing up to handle up to half a million parcels daily. PPL CZ CEO Petr Horák anticipates the busiest periods during Black Friday and just before the Christmas holidays, with a projection to surpass the 500,000 parcels per day mark this year.
In addition, retail giant Amazon has significantly bolstered its seasonal workforce at its distribution center in Dobrovíz near Prague. With more than 2600 seasonal employees and an additional approximately 1300 at its new robotic center in Kojetín, Amazon has augmented its team by 3900 seasonal workers, bringing the total to nearly 8000 to meet the heightened demand during the festive season. The concerted efforts of these delivery companies reflect a proactive approach to ensure smooth and efficient parcel deliveries amid the expected holiday surge in online shopping.
