Czech Government Office and Czech Technical University Forge Alliance to Bolster Cybersecurity
In a significant move to fortify cybersecurity, the Czech Government Office has entered into a strategic partnership with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague. The collaboration aims to elevate cybersecurity measures within the government office and associated workplaces, fostering a safer digital environment. The official signing of the memorandum of understanding took place at the Straka Academy.
Jana Kotalíková, Head of the Government Office, emphasized the need for a robust and independent partner with expertise in information security management. She sees the Faculty of Electrical Engineering as a valuable collaborator capable of providing specialists across various cybersecurity and risk management domains, drawing on their experience in adult education.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering perceives this collaboration as an extension of its social responsibility. Dean Petr Páta highlighted their commitment to research and development projects that have a tangible public impact. The partnership reflects their dedication to translating the outcomes of their work into practical applications and fostering stronger ties with the government and public sector.
Jaroslav Burčík, head of the Cybersecurity Center at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, outlined the institution’s contributions, including knowledge development for office employees, expert advice, and facilitating the selection of students from technical fields to meet the specific needs of the Government Office.
The collaboration will take shape through a pilot project designed to fine-tune procedures, responsibilities, and expectations in a selected area of information security at the Government Office. This pilot project is anticipated to commence within the next few months.
Beyond direct collaborations, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering extends its commitment to cybersecurity through initiatives like the Cyber Security Academy. This educational program, led by seasoned practitioners, offers remote courses, including laboratory components, benefiting both partners and the wider public.
Lukáš Kintr, Director of the National Cyber and Information Security Office, commended the memorandum signing as a responsible approach. He emphasized that addressing cybersecurity responsibly should be integral to both professional and civilian lives, with state institutions and the academic sector leading by example. The partnership signifies a proactive step towards strengthening the cybersecurity posture of critical government institutions in the Czech Republic.
