Czech Republic Braces for Winter Chill: Weekend Forecast Predicts 30 Centimeters of Snow in Mountains

As the week concludes with a brief period of warmth, the Czech Republic is set to experience a drastic shift in weather, marked by plummeting temperatures and the possibility of significant snowfall over the weekend. Meteorologists anticipate up to 30 centimeters of snow in the mountainous regions, signaling the onset of wintry conditions that are expected to persist into the coming week.

Meteorologist Honsová outlined the weather forecast, highlighting that Thursday will witness a temporary rise in temperatures due to the influence of a warm front. However, as a cold front sweeps through on Friday, cold air from the northwest will usher in winter-like conditions.

Thursday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with precipitation increasing in the north, turning snowy or mixed at higher elevations. Strong winds are also anticipated, though temperatures will range between 4 and 8 °C.

Friday will bring overcast weather accompanied by rain or showers across most of the country, turning snowy in higher elevations. Morning lows will dip to 3 to 7 °C, with daytime temperatures ranging between 4 and 8 °C. A strong wind is forecasted for the early part of the day.

Over the weekend, the Krkonoše and Krušné Mountains are anticipated to receive approximately 30 centimeters of snow, with snowflakes expected from around 300 meters above sea level. Saturday will be mostly cloudy to overcast, featuring local snowfall or snow showers, with temperatures dropping to 0 to -6 °C in the morning and rising to -2 to 3 °C during the day.

Sunday’s outlook continues with predominantly cloudy to overcast conditions, accompanied by widespread snowfall or snow showers. Morning lows are expected to range from 0 to -6 °C, with daytime highs reaching -2 to 3 °C.

Looking ahead to Monday through Wednesday, the forecast suggests cloudy weather, with occasional showers on Monday and sporadic precipitation on Tuesday and Wednesday. Morning temperatures will range from -1 to -5 °C, while daytime highs will hover between -2 and 3 °C. As winter settles in, residents are urged to prepare for the season’s challenges and potential disruptions.
