Czech Republic Has Limited Free Accommodation & Insurance for Ukrainian Refugees From April 1

The Czech Republic has implemented new regulations for housing and health insurance for Ukrainian refugees, effective April 1, 2023. The changes were made in accordance with the “Lex Ukraina V” law on refugees from Ukraine, signed by the Czech president. The updated rules state that Ukrainians can stay in free accommodation for a maximum of 150 days, starting from the date of receiving temporary protection. If the maximum term is exceeded or if the person refuses to live in the apartment or leaves without a valid reason, their right to free housing will be revoked. However, refugees will have an additional 90-day protection period after the 150 days to find alternative accommodation. After 150 days of stay, the Czech government will no longer automatically provide health insurance for Ukrainian citizens aged 18 to 64 unless they have a serious health condition that prevents them from working. The Ministry of Labor has also announced a reduction in financial aid for Ukrainian refugees, with income taken into account when calculating aid.
