Czech speaker invited to legislature

The Speaker of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, Marketa Pekarova Adamova, has been invited to deliver a speech in the Taiwanese legislature during her upcoming visit to the country in March. The invitation, which was extended by lawmakers across party lines, was announced by Legislative Speaker You Si-kun. Adamova’s visit to Taiwan is part of a larger Asian tour that will also include South Korea.

Adamova is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan on March 25th and attend official engagements with business representatives from the Czech Republic from March 27th to 29th. The Czech-Taiwanese Business Chamber has confirmed this information through an online announcement earlier this month.

The Taiwanese legislative session will open on Friday with a plenary meeting. During the meeting, Premier Chen Chien-jen and his Cabinet will present their policies and answer questions from legislators. The caucus whips from all parties have also agreed to vote on two bills that seek to distribute surplus tax revenues in the form of cash payments on February 21st.

One of the bills, proposed by the Democratic Progressive Party, seeks to give citizens and eligible foreign nationals a one-off cash handout of NT$6,000 taken from last year’s tax surplus. The second draft bill, proposed by the Chinese Nationalist Party, seeks to distribute a handout of NT$10,000, taking into account the tax surplus from previous years.

The invitation extended to Adamova is similar to the one given to the Czech Senate President, Milos Vystrcil, in 2020. This highlights the positive relationship between the Czech Republic and Taiwan and the willingness of both countries to engage in diplomatic and economic exchanges.

In conclusion, the invitation extended to the Czech Chamber of Deputies Speaker, Marketa Pekarova Adamova, to deliver a speech in the Taiwanese legislature is a testament to the strong relationship between the two countries. The upcoming legislative session in Taiwan will also focus on important issues, such as the distribution of surplus tax revenues, which will have a significant impact on the citizens of the country.
