Donor SMS will be tax deductible

From autumn, it will be possible to send higher amounts via donor SMS, known as DMS, than at present. People can also download a donation receipt via a special website if they want to deduct the amount from their income tax.

“Donor SMS will get a fourth price level of CZK 190,” Klára Šplíchalová, executive director of the Forum of Donors, said. Donating 30, 60, and 90 crowns through them is possible.

It will be possible to send the amount as a one-off or permanently. This means a text message worth 190 CZK would be sent monthly.

The sending will be done by sending a DMS message to the number 87777, the relevant project name (also in capital letters, e.g., BOUŘKAMORAVA), and the digit 190. The amount will then be deducted from the transferable credit or appear in the bill in favor of the chosen charitable cause.

It will then be possible to check how much a person has sent for the year on www.darcovskasms.cz, and a donation receipt can be generated when the year is over.

“Access will be via the donor’s phone number, to which a confirmation code will be sent to access the secure environment on the site. There he will be able to see how many DMSs have been sent from him,” said Šplíchalová.

Interest is growing, with 91 million sent last year

She said interest in donor text messages is currently increasing. Almost 91 million crowns were sent through the previous year. Most people donated to help the tornado victims in Moravia and support people with disabilities and the healthcare system.

People have donated more than 60 million crowns through DMS in the first half of this year. This is two-thirds of the total amount last year. This year, in addition to the stalwarts mentioned above, most donations are going to people affected by the war in Ukraine.
