Effective EU migration controls … of Ukrainian men

Few things in Czech politics have brought the ruling coalition and ANO as close together as the call to help Ukraine get its military-age men home to fight. Not only have Defense Min. Jana Černochová of ODS, Foreign Min. Jan Lipavský of the Pirates, Interior Min. Vít Rakušan of STAN and House Speaker Markéta Pekarová Adamová of TOP 09 supported the idea in one form or another, but ex-PM Andrej Babiš of ANO also did so by calling on Černochová to “extradite Ukrainian deserters of war.” MP Ondřej Kolář of TOP 09 said that he thinks it’s the duty of the CR, the Baltics, Poland and others to take the issue to the EU Parliament or Brussels and to find an EU-wide solution, because it’ll be a mess if every EU country addresses it in its own way. Before getting overly committed, Czech politicians should think about what the message will be if Europe agrees quickly on an effective way to rid itself of Ukrainian men while hordes of illegal non-Europeans keep flowing into the EU on a regular basis.
