The humanitarian situation in Gaza is acute. The needs are immense.
An immediate humanitarian ceasefire is necessary. The civilian population must be protected. Food, medicines and other essential items must reach the affected population.
Since 7 October 2023, Sweden has increased humanitarian support to Gaza by approximately EUR 40.5 million.
Women and children are particularly vulnerable and many are facing famine. There is great need for better humanitarian access to ensure that humanitarian support swiftly reaches the civilian population. Humanitarian staff must be able to move safely to provide assistance in all parts of Gaza.
Sweden is one of the largest humanitarian donors to organisations that work to improve the situation for the civilian population in Gaza. This support has now been increased by an additional EUR 10.5 million to UN bodies that prioritise the needs of children and women and work to combat famine.
At the same time, Sweden continues to push for Israel to allow greater humanitarian access and for Hamas to immediately release hostages.
