The 24th DesignBlok Festival will be held this year from 5 to 9 October at the Palace Gabriel Loci on Golečkovíj Street (Prague 5) and at the Prague Museum of Applied Art (Prague 1). Exactly in the first festival location in the halls 201 a and 201 d will pass the exhibition “Glory to Ukraine! », which will feature the work of Ukrainian designers and brands that continue to work and create in spite of the full-scale Russian aggression.
Under the slogan “Glory to Ukraine! » Seven Ukrainian design studios will be presented at this year’s DesignBlok, the main theme of which was chosen as the “Forest”, Сері/граф , Ґушка , Oksana Levchenya, Zhernov , I Re:Quiet . Of several dozens of brands, this is the program that was formed by Czech design studio IHOR founded by Czech designer with Ukrainian roots Igor Sabados.
💬 “Glory to Ukraine project! ” we have prepared, in detail analyzing all possible ways to help Ukrainian designers who have suffered as a result of the Russia-lashed war against Ukraine. We hope that helping specific artists is the most effective way we can contribute to the preservation of Ukrainian applied art,” – DesignBlok Festival Director Yana Zelensky explained her motivation.
Sara Matisova and Igor Sabadoš – the founders of the Czech brand “IHOR” – decided in the early days of the full-scale Russian aggression to give the space of their social networks to Ukrainian authors, introducing the Czech audience to Ukrainian designers. That’s why they were entrusted with a responsible mission – to become the curators of the first Ukrainian program at the festival. “We hope that the opportunity to participate in this year’s DesignBlok festival will help Ukrainian designers survive a difficult period, establish professional contacts and demonstrate that Ukrainian design is of world quality,”- says Igor Sabadoš.
The patronage of the Ukrainian stand was granted by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Czech Republic, which also helps the organizers with logistics. 💭 “Slogan” Glory to Ukraine! ” symbolizes Ukrainian courage, creativity and unstoppable energy that is visible even with the naked eye both on the battlefield and in culture. Slogan “Glory to Ukraine! ” we always use when we are in danger of extinction, so I see a certain symbolism in what would be called the Ukrainian exposition. Ukrainian Applied Art is now under threat, but its authors do not lose creative freedom and energy that are capable of stunning the world. This is the first comprehensive presentation of Ukraine at the DesignBlok Festival, which I hope will be the beginning of a tâgloí Це tradition,” adds Temporary Believer of Ukraine in the Czech Republic Vitaliy Usaty.
Representatives of Ukraine will also sit in this year’s festival jury. The composition of judges of the international Diploma Selection section will be supplemented by the fashion director of the Ukrainian Vogue Ukraine Venya Brykalin.
