Except for public transportation, third-degree disabled people will receive a 50% discount
According to Transport Minister Martin Kupka (ODS), third-degree disabled people will be entitled to a 50% discount on public transportation beginning July 1. From Monday, they can apply for a QR code to obtain a discount from the Czech Social Security Administration (ČSSZ).
The measure adopted by the government will affect about 100,000 people. Kupka said this at a press conference after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
People can apply the discount on second-class trains and regular bus transport. Proof of identity and a valid QR code will be required. People can present it in paper and electronic form using the newly adapted OneTicket mobile app.
“The QR code obtained from the ČSSZ can be simply read into the app, and then it is enough to show it together with the ID card to the driver or conductor,” said Jan Paroubek, director of the state enterprise Cendis, which developed the technological solution for applying the new discount.
Kupka added that some disabled people with a ZTP or ZTP/P card could already benefit from the discount, but some people were not entitled to it.
Students up to the age of 26 and seniors over the age of 65 currently receive a 50% discount on national and regional bus and rail lines, integrated transportation systems, and public transportation beyond the city limits. On trains, they apply to second-class tickets. They were previously entitled to a 75 percent discount, but the government of Petr Fiala (ODS) has cut it by a quarter since April.
