Fire breaks out at sports hall of military rehabilitation center at Slapy Reservoir

On Wednesday afternoon, a sports hall at a military rehabilitation center near Slapy Reservoir caught fire. The blaze was so intense that it required around 80 firefighters to declare the second alarm level out of four possible during the intervention. The initial report from the firefighters indicated that the roof was on fire, and the firefighters brought the fire under control after two and a half hours without any injuries.

The sports hall is part of a military rehabilitation center, and it is not yet clear what kind of damage the center suffered due to the fire. The Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the preliminary cause and estimate of the damage.

Currently, nine firefighting units are at the scene, extinguishing the remaining flames and using thermal cameras to locate hidden hotspots.

The fire highlights the importance of fire safety measures in public buildings, especially those used for physical activities such as sports halls. Fire can cause severe damage to property and human life if proper measures are not taken to prevent it.

In this case, it is fortunate that no one was injured in the fire, and the firefighters were able to control the blaze. However, it is essential to investigate the cause of the fire to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Public building owners and managers should ensure that fire safety measures are in place, such as fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and sprinkler systems, to prevent the spread of fire.

Moreover, regular maintenance of electrical wiring and equipment, as well as strict control of flammable materials, can reduce the risk of fires breaking out. It is also crucial for staff to be trained in fire safety procedures and to have an evacuation plan in place to ensure the safety of all occupants in case of fire.

Overall, fire safety is a critical aspect of building management and should not be taken lightly. This incident highlights the importance of preventive measures and emergency preparedness to ensure the safety of building occupants and prevent property damage.
