Fireworks exploded at Prague airport

Police intervened at Prague Airport after a firework exploded near a passenger. Police said they injured a man from the UK who was seized by police. The measures ended before 11 am, and traffic was restored. The explosion occurred in the tube between terminals one and two.

“A UK citizen was burned and injured in the public area of Terminal 2. Police pyrotechnicians are now working to establish the cause of the blaze. Initial information suggests it was probably the unprofessional handling of fireworks,” police said on Twitter.

Police spokeswoman Renata Grecmanová confirmed that the man had the pyrotechnics in his backpack. He suffered minor injuries. Police subsequently evacuated the corridor between Terminals 1 and 2. Fortunately, no one else was injured. The spokeswoman did not know whether the man had just arrived.

“One person of UK nationality has been detained in connection with the incident, and there is no danger to anyone,” police said.

“The airport’s operations were unrestricted. The police should be contacted for further information,” airport spokeswoman Klára Divíšková said.

The airport subsequently announced that the suspicious luggage had been found on its Twitter account. “Police, bomb squad on scene. There is a temporary restriction on access to the airport and limited operation of part of the halls, aircraft operation, and check-in without restrictions,” the airport stated.
