France continues to investigate Babiš

France continues to investigate Andrej Babiš, the Czech Prime Minister, over alleged fraud in connection with EU subsidies received by his Agrofert holding company. The investigation centers around whether Babiš had a conflict of interest in receiving the subsidies, as he retained control of the company while serving as Prime Minister.

The case was originally opened in 2017 by French prosecutors, who are now seeking to interview Babiš as part of their investigation. Babiš has denied any wrongdoing and has refused to cooperate with the investigation.

The investigation has added tension to the already strained relations between France and the Czech Republic. Babiš and French President Emmanuel Macron have had a number of public disagreements, with Babiš criticizing France’s immigration policies and Macron criticizing the Czech Republic’s treatment of minorities.

The EU has also been monitoring the situation, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stating that the investigation needs to be conducted “in full respect of the rule of law.”

The investigation is ongoing and it remains to be seen what action, if any, will be taken against Babiš. However, the situation highlights the ongoing issue of potential conflicts of interest among EU politicians and the need for stricter rules and enforcement to ensure the integrity of EU funding.

It’s worth noting that my knowledge cut-off date is 2021, it’s possible that the investigation might have progressed or ended, please check the current status of the investigation with an updated and reliable source.
