Government to add half a billion for school construction

The government will add half a billion crowns to the construction of schools. This is in response to the rise in construction prices. Thanks to the subsidies, 11,000 new places in primary schools will be created. Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) said this after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

“We have decided to increase the budget for the construction of schools by half a billion crowns,” the prime minister announced.

The money for constructing new schools will thus exceed CZK 7.3 billion.

The result should be an increase of 11,000 places for pupils in primary schools. Specifically, the cabinet is mainly concerned with the ring around Prague, where there are fewer places in classrooms due to the migration wave.

Deputy Education Minister Martina Bét’áková added that a call would be launched immediately for six municipalities in the Central Bohemia region that have projects ready, and a program will be opened for cities across the country, where 5,000 new places are to be created.

The program will be based on regional needs. The deputy minister named Plzeň, Liberec, and Brno is among the cities lacking jobs.
