Great success for Czech women’s tennis at this year’s Wimbledon

Czech tennis players Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková repeated last year’s extraordinary success of Markéta Vondroušová and Barbora Strýcová at this year’s Wimbledon Championships hosted by the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in London.

Barbora Krejčíková defeated Italian Jasmine Paolini in the Ladies’ Singles final on Saturday 13 July to become the fourth Ladies’ Wimbledon champion in independent Czech history after Jana Novotná, Patra Kvitová and the aforementioned Markéta Vondroušová.

On the same day, Kateřina Siniaková and her American partner Taylor Townsend followed up their success by beating the Canadian-Australian pair of Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe in the Ladie’s Doubles final. Kateřina Siniaková also followed in the footsteps of her compatriot, this time Barbora Strýcová, who won the Ladies’s Doubles final last year with Taiwan’s Xie Shu-wei. This year, Siniaková advanced through the semi-finals by beating the Taiwanese and ended her dream of defending the trophy. For Kateřina Siniaková, this is her third tournament win in the Ladies’s Doubles on the Wimbledon courts, having won the tournament in 2018 and 2022, when she teamed up with Barbora Krejčíková.

Both matches were watched in the stands by Ambassador Marie Chatardová, who congratulated both Czech winners in person after the match.
