Filming for Hallow Road, a psychological thriller from director Babak Anvari starring Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys in the lead roles, is currently underway in Prague. Production on the film kicked off in Ireland last month before heading to the Czech Republic.
Hallow Road stars Pike and Rhys as parents who receive a distressing late-night phone call from their daughter after she is involved in a tragic car accident. The parents race against time while trying to assist their daughter. Megan McDonnell (Normal People) stars as the daughter, and Paul Tylak portrays a police officer.
Director Anvari received acclaim for his 2016 Tehran-set horror film Under the Shadow, and followed up with 2019’s Wounds, starring Armie Hammer, and last year’s I Came By, with Hugh Bonneville and George MacKay. He’s also been tapped to direct a new Cloverfield film.
The script for Hallow Road was written by William Gillies, and will mark his debut feature. The film is a joint production between Two & Two Pictures, London Film & TV, and Hail Mary Pictures. Co-financing is provided by XYZ Films and Screen Ireland.
“I treasure the opportunity to collaborate with Rosamund and Matthew, two hugely talented actors who I’ve long admired, on Hallow Road,” Anvari told Deadline last month.
“I believe we can create something emotionally intense, and charged with uncanny terror, that nevertheless taps into something relatable to all families. I can’t wait to bring Will’s wonderful script to life with this brilliant team.”
Star Pike didn’t have to travel far for the project; since 2019, she’s lived in Prague with her family while shooting The Wheel of Time, which just wrapped production of its third season last month. Pike also starred in Doom opposite Dwayne Johnson and Karl Urban, which filmed in Prague in 2004. Currently, she can be seen in Emerald Fennell‘s Saltburn.
Pike’s Hallow Road co-star Rhys, meanwhile, best known for his roles on TV in The Americans and Perry Mason, filmed the WWI horror Deathwatch in Prague and other locations in the Czech Republic back in 2002.

A projected release date for Hallow Road has yet to be announced.
