High Demand Persists Despite Increased Costs: Ski Enthusiasts Eagerly Embrace Upcoming Winter Season

Despite a noticeable uptick in the cost of ski trips compared to the previous year, there is a sustained high demand for ski trips abroad and ski passes. The forthcoming ski season has seen increased interest, particularly during holidays and spring break periods, where an even more substantial influx of enthusiastic skiers is anticipated due to overlapping schedules.

A significant trend this season is the growing interest in skiing in Turkey. Jan Bezděk, spokesperson for the travel agency Nev-Dama, notes a robust winter season, with current sales of ski trips one-third higher than the same period last year. The Italian and Austrian Alps are particularly sought after, with France following closely in terms of popularity.

Bezděk highlights the unique scheduling overlap, such as the convergence of spring break in Prague and Central Bohemia with holidays in several other European countries, leading to a rapid decline in available accommodations. Spring break is set to commence on February 5th.

Despite an average seven percent increase in the price of a week-long ski trip compared to the previous year, ski enthusiasts remain undeterred. Affordable options include a week’s stay in an apartment in Italy or France starting from 5,000 crowns per person. For three-star hotels in Austria, inclusive of breakfast and a ski pass, prices typically range around 20,000 crowns per person, depending on the location.

The demand surge is not limited to one travel agency, as Čedok spokesperson Kateřina Pavlíková reports a one-third increase in demand for ski trips, with 85 percent of their holiday offers already sold. Austrian resorts dominate the bookings, but the agency has diversified its offerings to include hotels in Italy, gaining traction in reservations. Slovakia and Switzerland also emerge as popular choices for week-long stays.

In the face of rising costs, the allure of the slopes remains irresistible for most skiing enthusiasts. As anticipation builds for the upcoming ski season, set to be bustling and exciting, enthusiasts demonstrate their willingness to pay the price for the joy of carving paths down the mountains.
