How much will it cost to visit the Matějská fair in Prague?

The Matějská fair, which is held annually in Prague’s Holešovice district, is in its 428th edition and is a popular attraction for both children and adults. However, the rising prices due to inflation have made visitors wonder how much it will cost to attend this year’s fair. The fair organizer, Václav Kočka Sr., had already warned about the price increases before the fair began. According to Kočka Sr., the attraction owners are responsible for setting their own prices, making it challenging to provide an exact price list. Therefore, a team went to the fair and mapped out the prices.

The fair has over 100 different attractions, ranging from kiddie trains and floor carousels to extreme rides like the AirBorne, Octopus, and Techno, which cost around a hundred crowns. The traditional offer of sweet and savory snacks and shooting galleries are also available. Admission fees are 30 crowns per person, and it is free for children up to 120 centimeters and holders of disability cards ZTP and ZTP/P.

The prices of various attractions and food items have increased slightly this year. For instance, a 3-minute ride on a kiddie train or a floor carousel costs around 70 crowns, and a gingerbread heart costs 100 crowns. A ride on a Ferris wheel for one person costs 150 crowns, while the latest attractions from the Netherlands, such as the AirBorne, cost 200 crowns. Cotton candy on a stick costs between 50 and 80 crowns, and a hot dog in a bun costs around 40 crowns.

The fair has been affected by the weather and lower attendance, with some attractions being non-functional due to a lack of interest. Nevertheless, the fair still offers an exciting experience for visitors, with the absence of long lines and large crowds.

In conclusion, the Matějská fair remains a popular attraction despite the rising prices. Visitors can expect to spend around 70 to 200 crowns for attractions, depending on their preferences, and around 40 to 120 crowns for food items. However, it is essential to be cautious as prices may vary at different stands. Despite the weather and lower attendance, the fair still offers an enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages.
