I have no regrets, says Soukalova on documentary about her highs and lows

“I was sorry I couldn’t put a complete stop to my career. That will be the movie and the moment it hits theaters. For me, it will be such a poignant farewell to all this,” Soukalova says.
The document entitled ‘Gabriela Soukalová: The truth still pays off” charts the biracial woman’s entire career, her divorce from badminton player Peter Koukal, and her subsequent “bounce back” with her new partner and the birth of her daughter.
It’s amazing what can happen to one person,” Weathertop comments. He had spent the last two years with Soukalova, often opening up uncomfortable subjects during filming. “That was the hardest part of the whole process, pushing Gabina into an uncomfortable zone with my questions and my behavior.”
Apart from Soukala and her family, the film also features Czech biathletes Michal Krčmář or Ondřej Moravec, foreign stars Johannes Bö and Martin Fourcade and other actors in her life.
“The testimonies of others are very important to my style of work. It’s crucial that one person doesn’t tell the story, because everyone has their truth, their vision of the world. Gabriela has agreed to let people who have a different opinion, who oppose her, speak in the film. And then the viewer can make up his own mind. Even the search for the truth in court is based on the testimony of witnesses,” Větrovský explains.
Soukalova will accompany the film to a screening in cities that have something to do with her life. It will be shown, for example, in The New Town in Moray, Letohrada, or the home town of Jablonec nad Nisou. At the same time, together with the film, the creators will launch a campaign to promote its endowment fund for people suffering from an eating disorder.
The film tells the story of Gabriela Soukala, the biggest female biathlon star in our history, who ranked among the best racers in the world. The documentary follows the incredible journey from Jablonec nad Nisou to the world throne, allowing the viewer to penetrate the mysteries of Gabriela’s life. Secondarily, it charts the rise in popularity of the sport, on which it has the credit. She was able to become the world’s most successful biathlete, but her life journey was not easy. She had a lot of obstacles to overcome, but she came out on top when she became a World Cup winner and multiple Olympic gold medalist. The film documents her rise and fall.
From the pinnacle of both sporting and social status, Gabriela found herself at the very bottom. The film documentary looks at her achievements, the end of her career and the dissolution of her marriage, which has become a public interest. What were the causes? Who’s to blame? Could it have been stopped? The answers to these questions can be found in this biographical document. And not only that. You will also learn how to get back on your feet in the most difficult moment of your life and go up. Has the legendary athlete been trying to make a comeback in the past year?
Film documentary Gabriela Soukalová: The truth is still worth answering.
‘I don’t regret anything that happened to me in my life, even though many of the moments were difficult. In the end, I’m happy for them because they shaped me into the shape I’m in now,” Soukalova tells me, wishing: “I hope that the film will give strength to people who are not in a pleasant living situation and think that it can’t get any worse. Perhaps my story will inspire them.”
