Jan Hřebejk will reveal the Background of the events in a new miniseries on ČT1

The four-part miniseries Background of the Events, which was filmed in Olomouc and Prague, will be broadcast by Czech Television from Sunday, September 11, 2022, always from 8:10 p.m. on the ČT1 program.
It is characterized by the handwriting of the creators Jan Hřebejk, Petr Jarchovský and Michal Sýkora, with which they follow up on previous extremely successful joint television and film projects. Jiří Havelka, Petra Hřebíčková, Martha Issová or Jitka Čvančarová will star in the main roles.
Vojtěch Bohdanovský and Soňa Kostková are siblings. Both teach at the Palacký University in Olomouc, both are experiencing a crisis in their marriage: Vojta and his five-year-old son are left by their wife, Soňa, who is attached to two children and faces her husband’s infidelities and eternal neglect. Vojta writes detective stories in his spare time. Soňa is inspired by him and publishes a very successful erotic novel Background of Events under a pseudonym. The ambitious Alice Klusová is elected to the position of dean of the Faculty of Philosophy. In an effort to eradicate all manifestations of surviving sexist stereotypes at the school, educators and students who cross the imaginary ethical border come into its crosshairs. The situation at the university escalates when a sexually motivated murder of a female student occurs. Thirty-five-year-old criminologist Lída Stehlíková, who lives in a partnership with a woman with whom she is expecting a family, is in charge of investigating the case. The background of the events was filmed in February and March 2021 in Prague and Olomouc during the time of the coronavirus measures. The representative of Vojtěch Bohdanovský, Jiří Havelka, remembers it with the passage of time as “the best possible way of digesting the lockdown”. The music for the series, including the title song Ticho, was composed by the representative of one of the main roles, Katarina Kubošiová (Katarzia).
“Petr Jarchovský, Michal Sýkora and I, as authors, know the university environment almost perfectly. I’ve been working in the detective genre for a few years, from the attempt at insight and elegance in Detectives from the Holy Trinity, to the dark note in Rédl, which Petr dramatized,” says director Jan Hřebejk. “
The plot of the miniseries The background of the events is a detective story, the genre is a comedy, but the result should ideally be an original, philosophizing morality, based on the paradoxes of contemporary society and interpersonal relationships. The theme The background of events is completely contemporary: men and women and their relationships in an era of changing social roles. The crime serves as the catalyst for the story. We believe in engaging our viewers by showing situations they know intimately from their own lives. And we want to do it with a certain intellectual ambition.”
