Median Poll Predicts ANO Party to Win Czech Republic’s Upcoming Parliamentary Elections

A recent poll by the Median polling company has shown that the ANO movement led by Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš is expected to win the upcoming parliamentary elections with 34.5% of the vote. The poll also suggests that the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) would come in second with 15.5% of the vote, followed by the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party with 10% and the Pirate Party with 8.5%. The Mayors and Independents (STAN) would receive 8% of the vote, while the TOP 09 would get 5%.

The poll also revealed that the Social Democrats and the Christian Democrats would not enter parliament, both with 4% of the vote. The Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM) and Trikolory would receive 3% of the vote, while the Greens and Oath would each receive 2%. However, the agency notes that there is a possible statistical margin of error that could affect the outcome of the elections for TOP 09, KDU-ČSL, and ČSSD.

ANO has experienced a rise in support since last summer, with an expected share of under 30% in the polls. Since the February survey, ANO’s support has risen by 2.5 percentage points, with a slight increase also noted for ODS, SPD, and STAN. Conversely, the Pirates have seen a decrease in support. According to Median, ANO’s electoral potential is at the same level as its model preferences.

The poll suggests that 63.5% of eligible voters would participate in the elections, with almost half of the respondents stating that they will vote and know which party they will support, while over a third remain undecided. The poll was conducted from March 2 to April 3 and involved 1,006 respondents.

These results are significant in the context of the upcoming elections, which are set to take place in October 2021. The poll suggests that ANO is on track to secure a significant victory, with other parties unlikely to catch up. However, it remains to be seen whether this poll will be reflected in the actual election results.
