More than half of Czechs want lower budget deficit, survey shows

Czech Citizens Want Lower State Budget Deficit, Says Kantar TNS Survey

According to a recent survey conducted by Kantar TNS agency, more than half of Czech citizens are calling for a lower budget deficit. The survey, which was conducted between March 20 and April 6 and involved 1,200 respondents, found that 57% of Czechs believe that the state budget deficit, which is currently at 295 billion Czech crowns, should be reduced.

The survey also revealed that 15% of those surveyed consider the current level of debt to be reasonable, while 24% said that this year’s state budget deficit could be higher than the approved amount of 295 billion Czech crowns if the government directed more funds towards the people.

The authors of the survey noted that the opinion for reducing the budget deficit was more prevalent among older generations, people with higher education, and voters of political parties such as ODS or KDU-CSL. On the other hand, those who expressed a desire for a higher budget deficit were ANO and KSČM voters or non-voters.

The findings of the survey indicate that there is a growing concern among Czech citizens regarding the country’s budget deficit, and they are looking for ways to address this issue. The government will need to take into account these concerns and find ways to balance the budget while addressing the needs of the people.

The Czech Republic, like many other countries around the world, has been grappling with the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in a significant increase in the budget deficit. The government has implemented various measures to address this issue, including increasing taxes, reducing public spending, and seeking financial assistance from the European Union. However, the survey results suggest that there is still much work to be done to address the concerns of citizens regarding the budget deficit.
