New Car Sales in Czech Republic Surge by 17.2% in First Seven Months

The Czech Republic experienced a significant increase in new car sales, with a 17.2% rise in the first seven months of this year, totaling 131,638 vehicles sold. Data from the Association of Automobile Importers revealed that July alone saw a nearly 20% growth in sales, amounting to 16,090 cars. However, this was a 21% decrease compared to June.

Skoda Auto, the leading brand in the country, recorded a remarkable 31% increase in sales, selling 46,741 cars. Hyundai followed suit with a 6% growth, selling 12,200 vehicles, while Volkswagen secured the third position with a sales increase of 19%, totaling 11,103 cars. Other brands that performed well included Toyota, Kia, and Mercedes-Benz.

Light commercial vehicle registrations also saw a significant surge of 21% to reach 12,042 units. Renault emerged as the best-selling brand, experiencing a 22% increase with 1,953 vehicles sold. Volkswagen saw an astounding 134% growth, selling 1,563 cars, and Opel secured an 87% increase with 1,398 vehicles sold.

The truck market also witnessed positive growth, with sales rising by 17% to reach 5,935 vehicles. Mercedes-Benz led the pack with 1,109 cars sold, followed closely by Volvo with 1,077 vehicles, and DAF secured the third position with 835 cars sold.

In contrast, the bus category experienced a 57% decline in sales, totaling 396 vehicles. The leading brands in this segment were Setra and domestic Iveco Bus, which recorded the highest number of sales.

Motorcycle sales witnessed a modest 3% increase, reaching 18,496 units. The Honda brand emerged as the market leader with 4,992 motorcycles sold, followed by CF Moto with 1,646 units, and Yamaha secured the third position with 1,225 motorcycles sold.

This surge in new car sales is an encouraging sign for the Czech Republic’s automotive industry. While Skoda Auto continues to dominate the market, other brands are also experiencing robust growth. The positive trends extend beyond passenger cars, with light commercial vehicles and trucks also seeing increased sales. The growth in motorcycle sales further adds to the positive outlook for the industry. As the automotive sector is a significant contributor to the Czech Republic’s economy, the strong performance of the industry is likely to have positive implications for the overall economic growth of the country in the coming months.
