Number of New COVID Cases in the Czech Republic Rises by Half in Past Week

The number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Czech Republic has increased by about a half in a week, from 1,900 to 5,413, according to the Health Ministry’s data. The incidence rate or the number of new confirmed COVID cases per 100,000 inhabitants is 50 in Czechia now. On Thursday, 525 patients with COVID-19 were hospitalised, ten of whom in a serious condition. In the past week, 22 patients died due to COVID-19 infection. This was one more than in the previous seven-day period.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic in the country on March 1, 2020, around 4.6 million coronavirus infection cases have been confirmed in the Czech Republic. Among these cases, 386,000 are reinfections. On the other hand, approximately 6.9 million people have been fully vaccinated against the virus, and around 4.4 million have received the first booster jab. Almost 795,000 people have received the second booster shot.

The Czech Republic’s government has recently implemented some measures to tackle the COVID-19 spread, including the requirement of wearing respirators in public transport and in shops. However, no further restrictions have been announced, as the incidence rate is still lower than the threshold value of 75 per 100,000 inhabitants, which would trigger stricter anti-epidemic measures.

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala has urged people to get vaccinated to help combat the pandemic. He also stated that the government is considering reducing the interval between the first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to three weeks, rather than the current six weeks, to provide better protection for people.

The Czech Republic has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, with a significant number of cases and deaths per capita. The country has faced several waves of infections and has implemented various measures to curb the spread of the virus. Despite the challenges, the country has made significant progress in the vaccination campaign, and more people are receiving booster shots. As the incidence rate continues to rise, it is crucial for people to follow public health guidelines, including getting vaccinated, wearing masks, and social distancing, to protect themselves and others from the virus.
