Parental allowance to increase, government plans

The government of Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) plans to modify the rules of parental allowance. Parents with lower incomes could receive a monthly allowance of up to CZK 13 000 instead of the current maximum of CZK 10 000. The Prime Minister announced this after a cabinet meeting.

The head of the government, Fiala, announced that they would adjust the maximum amount of parental allowance by three thousand crowns, i.e., from ten thousand to thirteen thousand crowns.

Package of measures to lessen the effect on people when prices go up: This is one of them.

“We are helping those who cannot help themselves. We will not let anyone fall, but it is not within the possibilities of state finances to give blanket support to everyone, “the prime minister said.

The government wants to support part-time work and announce emergency subsidies for children’s groups.

At the same time, it has decided on a one-off allowance of CZK 5,000 per child for families with an annual net income of up to CZK 1 million.

This would apply to children up to 18, i.e., roughly 1.1 million households. According to the ministry, the government is still fine-tuning the technical solution, and the state should ideally start paying the allowance in August.
