Prague to Construct New Transport Terminal in Smíchov City by 2028

The city of Prague has been given final permission to construct the Smíchov transport terminal, which will serve as part of the new residential area of Smíchov City. According to Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib, the terminal will be developed on the basis of the current railway station and will become a transit center connecting buses, trains, trams, and the metro. The Czech Republic Railway Administration is currently seeking a construction company to build the terminal, which is expected to begin operations in late 2027 or early 2028.

The new terminal will integrate the historic station building with a new hall, with the restoration work being carried out in a “delicate” manner. The plans also include the creation of a fourth railway platform, as well as a P+R intercept parking lot for a thousand cars and bicycles. Additionally, an administrative building for the Czech Railways Administration is planned, but its appearance is still unknown as a separate architectural competition was held for its design.

The construction of the Smíchov transport terminal is part of the wider development of Smíchov City, which will bring new housing, offices, and public spaces to the area. The A69 architectural bureau has already designed the future terminal, and the necessary documents will be prepared over the next two to three years before construction begins.

Once operational, the terminal will significantly improve transport connections in Prague, making it easier for commuters to move between different modes of transport. The integration of the historic station building with a new hall will also help to preserve the city’s cultural heritage while modernizing its transport infrastructure.

Overall, the development of the Smíchov transport terminal and the wider Smíchov City project demonstrate the city of Prague’s commitment to sustainable urban development, improving transport connections, and creating vibrant new neighborhoods for its residents. With the project set to begin construction in the coming years, it is expected to have a significant positive impact on the city and its residents for years to come.
