Prague’s Old Town Square Illuminated by Majestic 22-Meter Christmas Spruce: A Festive Marvel to Light Up the Season

In a heartwarming spectacle, Prague’s historic Old Town Square welcomed the holiday season with the arrival of a towering Christmas spruce, standing at an impressive 22 meters. Originating from the Českolipsko region, this majestic tree, aged over 50 years according to its rings, promises to be a visual delight when it is illuminated for the first time on the upcoming Saturday.

Transported from a private garden in Pertoltice pod Ralskem, where it was carefully felled last Saturday, the responsibility of securing the tree in its place was undertaken by Technologie Hlavního Města Prahy (THMP), the technology company of Prague. Following its secure placement, the festive decoration process commenced, transforming the tree into a dazzling centerpiece.

The sheer scale of decoration for this majestic spruce is noteworthy. Over eight kilometers of light chains, 342 balls, and 50 stars will adorn the tree, infusing the heart of Prague with a festive ambiance that is sure to captivate residents and tourists alike.

Starting this Saturday, the tree will be aglow daily from 4 p.m. until midnight, casting a warm and enchanting glow over the Old Town Square. This nightly spectacle will continue until January 6th, ensuring that the festive spirit lingers well into the new year.

Beyond its role as a festive beacon, the tree will serve a sustainable purpose after the holiday season concludes. The branches will be repurposed at the Prague Zoo, while the trunk will be transformed into planks. Students will then utilize these planks to craft furniture and other products, ensuring that the Christmas spruce continues to bring joy and serve a purpose long after the holiday season fades away. Prague’s Old Town Square, adorned by this majestic spruce, stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to creating lasting memories and promoting sustainability during the festive season.
