Prague’s Third District Plans to Renew Tree-Lined Streets with More Trees and Shrubs

The third district of Prague, Praha 3, is making a concerted effort to restore tree-lined streets in the city by planting more trees and shrubs in the coming months. This initiative is part of the district’s ongoing strategy to combat rising temperatures and maintain a healthy climate in the city.

Last year, Praha 3 planted 66 trees and 134 decorative shrubs in its parks, housing estates, and inner courtyards. This year, the district plans to renew the tree rows on Na Ohrade Street and other areas, including Za Zizkovskou Vozovnou Street, during the spring and autumn planting season. The district is also planning to add more ornamental cherry trees, maples, and oaks to its streets.

Jan Bartko, an environmental strategist for Praha 3, believes that planting trees is the best way to cool a city and its streets. Trees help maintain humidity and reduce air pollution, making them the most effective way to maintain a suitable climate in a city. The district’s focus on planting more trees and shrubs is part of its long-term strategy to create a healthier and more livable environment for its residents.

In addition to the benefits of cooling the city and improving air quality, trees also provide many other benefits. Trees provide habitat for wildlife, contribute to the city’s biodiversity, and can help reduce stormwater runoff. Trees also add aesthetic value to the city and can increase property values.

Praha 3’s initiative to restore tree-lined streets is part of a larger trend towards green urbanism. Cities around the world are recognizing the importance of green spaces and are investing in initiatives to increase tree cover and green infrastructure. Green urbanism is not only good for the environment but also for the health and well-being of residents.

In conclusion, Praha 3’s efforts to restore tree-lined streets are an important step towards creating a healthier and more livable city. By investing in green infrastructure, the district is not only improving the environment but also creating a more attractive and valuable urban landscape. Other cities can learn from Praha 3’s example and invest in similar initiatives to improve the quality of life for their residents.
