President Clinton Celebrates 25th Anniversary of NATO Accession in Prague

At the invitation of President Pavel, former President Bill Clinton visited Prague March 9-12 to mark the 25th anniversary of Czechia’s accession to NATO.  During a keynote speech at a security conference at Prague Castle, Clinton praised Czechia for its extensive military assistance to Ukraine, including Prague’s initiative to source artillery shells for Ukraine from non-EU countries.

Clinton also thanked Czechia for welcoming more than 500,000 refugees from Ukraine.  Applauding the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO, Clinton assessed NATO’s expansion in 1999 was “the right thing to do.”  In addition to meeting PM Fiala, Clinton received a state award from President Pavel, attended a reception hosted by Ambassador Sabet, and joined Pavel at the jazz club Clinton famously visited in 1994 with then Czech President Vaclav Havel.
