President Petr Pavel’s interview for BBC HARDtalk.

President Petr Pavel gave interview to Stephen Sackur for the BBC HARDtalk.

The former Nato army general, now newly-elected Czech president, told HARDtalk’s Stephen Sackur “fatigue of war” could lead to a drop in the support for Ukraine among Western and European allies. This year, he said, could be decisive as “both Russia and Ukraine would most probably try to make a really big offensive”.

President Pavel said if support for Ukraine declined and Russia prevailed in the conflict, Moscow “would take it as a confirmation of the right approach to their foreign and security policies”. “Russia,” he warned, “wouldn’t stop with Ukraine”.
