President Radev and Czech Prime Minister discussed the support of Czech EU Council Presidency for Bulgaria’s Schengen accession

President Rumen Radev held a telephone conversation with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala on November 21.

Czech Republic’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) continues until the end of the year and one of the main priorities is the enlargement of the Schengen area.

During the talks, Petr Fiala reaffirmed support for Bulgaria and Romania to join Schengen without further delay.

The Bulgarian President welcomed the constructive approach of the Czech presidency on the issue and expressed his expectation for a positive outcome for Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area by the end of the year.

The findings of the inspections, which took place recently at the invitation of Bulgaria and Romania, were positive and confirmed our readiness for accession, the Bulgarian Head of State said. Petr Fiala confirmed Bulgaria’s successful results from the two visits and said the Czech Presidency fully supports the simultaneous accession of Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia to the Schengen area by the end of the year.
