On 26 June every year, Thailand commemorates Sunthorn Phu, a great poet who was honoured the World Poet in 1986 – 200th anniversary of his birth. His poetry works are praised for not only the beautifully composed rhymes of verses, but also the morals for leading the life. This is how his literature could access the wider public and is used lessons in schools presently.

One example of the verses well known to Thai people is (in direct translation):
“Don’t ever trust human’s mind.
It is of unfathomable depth,
far more winding than the climbing vines.
Two true loves embed in human’s life
Parents’ love is always benign.
The one he can rely on is one self,
Utilizing the verbal skills to get one through”
