Severe thunderstorms with intense rainfall are coming, meteorologists warned

Severe thunderstorms threaten most of the country from Wednesday afternoon until evening. They may be accompanied by gusty winds, intense rainfall of around 30 millimeters, and hail. The area of Bohemian Switzerland, where forest fires are raging, is not affected by the warning.

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has issued a warning for Vysočina, South Bohemia, Pardubice, South Moravia, Olomouc, Zlín, and Moravia-Silesia regions, as well as parts of Central Bohemia, Pilsen, and Hradec Kralove regions, valid from 1 pm to 11 pm on Wednesday.

The warning said an isolated occurrence of strong thunderstorms with wind gusts of around 70 kilometers per hour, intense precipitation of about 30 millimeters, and hail.

However, meteorologists say the stronger storms will be more localized. The fire risk warning remains in force in Bohemia and parts of the Highlands until further notice.

Meteorologists say heavier rainfall could arrive on Friday, along with more storms.
