The government’s proposal for lower pension growth is resisting attempts to postpone the debate

The Czech Republic’s government has proposed a lower increase in June pensions, but the proposal has faced opposition from the opposition party. The government wants to lower the growth rate of pensions, but the opposition has been trying to obstruct the move, even going as far as to refuse the abbreviated discussion of the government’s amendment. However, the opposition has failed to block the government’s proposal as the ruling coalition still passed it. The opposition MPs now plan to take their case to the Constitutional Court. During the meeting of the House of Representatives, the chairman of ANO, Andrej Babiš, unsuccessfully proposed to suspend the discussion of the item until March 21. The SPD club requested two half-hour breaks for a meeting after midnight. During the long discussions, Babiš read out the speeches of five ANO MPs, which they could not read themselves due to the cancellation of the general debate on the amendment.

The meeting of the House of Representatives on the controversial government proposal for a lower June pension increase has been ongoing for four days. The SPD club requested two thirty-minute breaks for club meetings during the night meeting, while the ANO club requested a two-hour break earlier in the evening. The parliamentary club can request a break for a meeting for the entire day of the meeting, with a total duration of no more than two hours. The debate was resumed at 6:28 am, and the Labor Minister Marian Jurečka stated that Vondráčka’s proposal was non-votable as it was not expected to be discussed in committees. However, Vondráček believes that his proposal was concrete enough to be voted on.

In conclusion, the Czech Republic’s government has proposed a lower growth rate of pensions, which has faced opposition from the opposition party.
