The population of the Czech Republic increased due to migration

The population of the Czech Republic rose to 10,511,109 in the first three quarters of 2021. This increase is attributed to migration, according to the Czech Statistical Office (CSO). The figures do not include Ukrainians who were granted temporary protection due to war conflicts in their homeland. During the first nine months of the year, 77,000 people were born in the Czech Republic and 88,000 people died.

This means that the population of the Czech Republic did not grow at a natural rate in any of the first three quarters of 2021. In contrast, in the years 2014-2020, a higher number of births than deaths were recorded in the second and third quarters. Additionally, 45,000 people moved to the Czech Republic and 23,000 left during the same period.

The CSO also reported that 48.6% of children were born out of wedlock, 47,000 couples were married, and nearly 15,000 couples divorced in this period.
