Prague has a new underground cinema for the winter season, and its entrance is literally through a wardrobe.

Sunset Cinema, the popular rooftop cinema located on Prague’s Arkády Pankrác shopping center, closed along with the Czech capital’s other outdoor summer cinemas as the weather got cold in September.

But organizers took the offseason opportunity to do something a little for the winter months. Now occupying the cinema space at trendy Holešovice hangout Vnitroblok, Sunset Cinema has rebranded as ‘Christmas Story’ and has been screening holiday favorites for the past six weeks.

The cinema’s entrance is decked out with a mailbox containing letters to Santa, a cozy fireplace, and an old-school gramophone playing seasonal tunes. Best of all: to get inside the screening room, you need to go through a wardrobe.

The Sunset Cinema screening hall itself features a few dozen puffy lounge chairs and tables to hold your concessions.

Currently (through January 8), Sunset Cinema is screening a lineup of holiday hits that includes the first two Home Alone movies, Grinch, Love, Actually, the Harry Potter franchise, and more.

From next week, the Christmas classics are replaced by favorites like Pretty Woman, Catch Me if You Can, The Proposal, and The Great Gatsby.

While the Christmas theme may not last much longer into the winter months, we hope Sunset Cinema will stick around at Vnitroblok for a little while longer, until summer cinema season in the Czech capital returns and the cinema moves back to a Prague rooftop.

The wardrobe entrance, at least, would make it an ideal location for a screening of the 2005 adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, which happened to be filmed in Prague and locations around the Czech Republic.

Entrance to Sunset Cinema at Vnitroblok runs 290 crowns. Tickets can be purchased from GoOut, but discounted packages that include popcorn or mulled wine are currently available from Slevomat.
