Ukraine Launches International Arms Industry Coalition to Strengthen Defense Capabilities
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has officially unveiled the formation of an international coalition within the arms industry, marking a significant step toward enhancing Ukraine’s defense capabilities and pursuing broader objectives in the defense sector. This announcement was made during a recent armaments forum held in Kiev, attended by representatives from 252 armaments companies spanning over 30 countries, including the Czech Republic. However, President Zelensky did not disclose the names of these companies at the event.
The foundation of this alliance is a declaration that has already been signed by 13 prominent arms manufacturers, a fact disclosed by President Zelensky on social media. He also highlighted the potential for additional arms corporations to join this initiative. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry subsequently confirmed that 38 companies from 19 countries have already become part of this endeavor.
President Zelensky articulated his vision of positioning Ukraine as one of the world’s leading arms producers. He stated, “We convened the inaugural Defense Industry Forum in Ukraine, uniting 252 leading arms manufacturers from Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia. Currently, robust military-industrial complexes are taking form, along with their priorities and the global standard for defense.”
The primary focus of this initiative is advancing arms production through modern technologies, including domestic manufacturing of grenades, missiles, and drones in collaboration with global leaders in these sectors.
In discussions with representatives from defense industry companies and associations from several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Turkey, Sweden, and the Czech Republic, President Zelensky explored partnership possibilities and joint weapon production. He pledged that Ukraine is ready to offer special incentives to companies willing to engage in arms production alongside the nation.
Importantly, the President emphasized that this alliance is firmly committed to upholding international law and defending not only Ukraine but also the free world from aggression.
Ukraine, which has previously relied on Western arms deliveries to counter Russian threats, now aspires to achieve self-sufficiency in weaponry production. To fund this ambition, a dedicated defense fund will be established, drawing revenue from dividends generated by state-owned defense assets and proceeds from the sale of seized Russian assets.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed confidence that Ukraine will emerge as a prominent hub for producing top-quality military goods in Europe in the future, signaling the country’s determination to strengthen its defense capabilities and contribute to global security.
