WWII veteran Ervín Hoida awarded with the State Defense Cross

Czech Defence Attaché Brigadier General Vratislav Beran visited 104-year-old World War II veteran Major Erwin Hoida.

At his home he presented Mr. Hoida with the State Defence Cross, awarded by the Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic, Jana Černochová. Mr. Hoida, a native of Ostrava, just months younger than the Czech Republic, reminisced (in impeccable Czech) about his school years, which later enabled him to establish a working company, and his escape from Nazism and later Communism.
